In a statement, Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo said the abduction was designed to coincide with a visit of a special rapporteur from the United Nations and while some African leaders are in Harare mourning the late former president Robert Mugabe.

The former Economic Development Minister says Mugabe was power hungry as he never tolerated any form of opposition during and after the country’s liberation struggle of the 1960s.
Charles Ray, former U.S. Ambassador to Zimbabwe from 2009 to 2012, said while Mugabe made a lot of mistakes, one can never strip him of his legacy as “one of the founding fathers of Africa’s independence.”

Accordingly to the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, the 37 year-old Mombeyarara was abducted by six heavily armed men who assaulted and severely tortured before dumping him at a quarry mine near Hatfield suburb in Harare.
In a letter dated August 8, 2019, signed by the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Misheck Sibanda, President Mnangagwa said he fired Mupfumira due to her inappropriate conduct.

In a statement, ZERA said with immediate effect the price of petrol has been increased from $7.55 to $9.01 per litre and diesel from $7.22 to $9.06 per litre.
