But CCC led by Nelson Chamisa dismissed the allegations as wishful thinking.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said in a tweet, "As expected, the regime is in panic mode & has resorted to mounting a co-ordinated attack of cheap propaganda & fake news against the new yellow baby. They won’t succeed!"
Zimbabwe is expected to hold council and parliamentary by-elections next month amid political tensions in the country.
Meanwhile, the CCC vice president, Tendai Biti, who was arrested early Monday was released without any charges laid against him.
Mahere said Biti was "unlawfully arrested in Greendale by 3 armed police officers including the OIC of Rhodesville Police Station."
She said he was released in the afternoon after spending several hours Harare Central Police Station.
"Hon @BitiTendai has been released without charge into the custody of his lawyers. No explanation has been given for why he was arrested & detained in the first place. This abuse of the law and weaponization of the Police Service must stop!" she said in a tweet.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi was unreachable for comment as he was not responding to calls on his mobile phone.
