President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to be sworn in tomorrow amid political tensions and claims by the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) that Zanu PF stole the vote.
Presidents Filipe Nyusi of Mozambique, Cyril Ramaphosa (South Africa) and Felix Tshisekedi (Democratic Republic of Congo) have confirmed that they will attend the swearing in ceremony at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.
But CCC says they are engaging the Southern African Development Community to ensure that there is a free, fair and credible election in Zimbabwe. The government has dismissed CCC claims, saying CCC interim leader, Nelson Chamisa, is a sore loser.
Joseph Tshuma of the ruling Zanu PF party says the election period is over.
However, CCC interim spokesperson, Promise Mkhwanazi, says the party is in the process of engaging SADC leaders on the way forward for Zimbabwe after making a decision not to file papers opposing Mnangagwa’s election victory “as the judiciary is captured by the government and ruling party.”
Independent political analyst, Bekithemba Mhlanga, who is also a former journalist, told VOA Studio 7 that there are fears of violence in Zimbabwe.
He says many nations, including some in the SADC region, have questioned Mnangagwa’s legitimacy.
