Suspected Zanu PF Activists Abduct 2 Teachers Amid Political Tensions in Zimbabwe

The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ) says two teachers were allegedly abducted Wednesday evening by Zanu PF activists in the Midlands region while they were invigilating examinations.

ARTUZ leader, Obert Masaraure, identified the abducted teachers as Onias Hwani and Joice Jimu, adding that their whereabouts are unknown.

Masaraure, who could not disclose the reasons for their abduction, claimed that Zanu PF regional leader, Mafara Dube, was part of the group that witnessed the incident. Studio 7 was unable to reach Dube, who was not responding to calls on his mobile phone.

Police spokesperson, Senior Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, said they have not yet received reports of the abductions.

Justice Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi, claimed that “these abductions are fake”, adding that Zimbabwe is a peaceful nation.
