Former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe Dies

Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe's first post-independence leader, has died at the age of 95.

Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa confirmed the news through a message posted on his twitter account.

"It is with the utmost sadness that I announce the passing on of Zimbabwe's founding father and former President, Cde Robert Mugabe. Cde Mugabe was an icon of liberation, a pan-Africanist who dedicated his life to the emancipation and empowerment of his people. His contribution to the history of our nation and continent will never be forgotten. May his sould rest in eternal peace."

Mugabe led Zimbabwe from independence in 1980 to November 2017 when he was forced to resign after a military takeover.
