WASHINGTON DC —
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formation of former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai on Thursday failed again to hold its Standing Committee meeting after some members failed to attend the meeting.
The meeting had been deferred to Thursday after it failed to take off Wednesday amid reports of deep divisions within the party over leadership renewal calls.
But party spokesman Douglas Mwonzora played down the reports of divisions, insisting that the meeting could not take place again Thursday because of the absence of many key leaders due to party commitments.
He gave an example of party president Tsvangirai who he said also failed to attend the meeting because he was busy holding other meetings with district leaders in Harare.
Mwonzora said instead, the party’s information committee met to discuss media indiscipline that he said was creeping in the party.
Mwonzora said the information committee meeting agreed that only responsible spokespersons at all party levels should speak on behalf of the party.
