WASHINGTON —
Zimbabweans living in South Africa are holding a meeting today in Johannesburg to map out ways of engaging the government in acquiring elusive work permits.
Daniel Muzenda of the Zimbabwe Immigrants Association says most organizations involved in issues affecting Zimbabweans living in that country are attending the meeting.
“Everyone is concerned about the latest immigration regulations announced by the South African government which in a way will force thousands of people to go back home as there will be a few jobs for foreigners in this country.
“If you are not a professional like a doctor or pharmacist indications are that one will no longer get a permit to work here,” says Muzenda.
Over 250,000 Zimbabweans were issued special permits in 2009 which expire this December.
