Police in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, arrested three members of the pressure group Women of Zimbabwe Arise in the course of a demonstration by 500 members of the organization against what it said was continued police harassment, WOZA sources said.
Four other members arrested Saturday were released by police Monday evening after the state declined to prosecute. WOZA said the four were tortured while in custody.
Women of Zimbabwe Arise Coordinator Jenni Williams told VOA reporter Jonga Kandemiiri that the group wanted its demonstration to coincide with International Women’s Day commemorations to be held around the world on Tuesday.
