Zimbabwean opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai returned to the country today after weeks in South Africa from which he had mounted a diplomatic offensive following the contested March 29 election, promising his supporters a "definitive" outcome in the forthcoming June 27 presidential run-off against President Robert Mugabe.
Tsvangirai's first stop after arriving at Harare International Airport was the Avenues Clinic in the capital where he visited victims of politically motivated violence which his Movement for Democratic Change says has claimed the lives of 48 activists. He then denounced Mr. Mugabe's ZANU-PF party which he accused of mounting a brutal campaign of political retribution and intimidation in the post-election period.

Meanwhile, in Johannesburg, about two thousand Zimbabweans and other foreigners along with South African citizens marched to protest the xenophobic mob violence that in recent days has taken at least 42 lives - but even as the demonstration proceeded to the Gauteng provincial legislature more violence broke out across town.
