MARYLAND - The Zimbabwe High Court today reserved judgment in a matter in which jailed opposition Transform Zimbabwe leader, Jacob Ngarivhume, is appealing against a four-year jail for inciting violence.
Ngarivhume filed for bail pending appeal, arguing the magistrate court erred in convicting him and the sentence was too harsh.
His attorney, Lovemore Madhuku, told reporters in Harare the judge “reserved his judgement and they are looking at our aurguments.”
Madhuku noted that “the state wrote their arguments which we are opposing in our application. We have made a clear argument that he sought not to have been convicted by the court and that in any event even if they were to say that the conviction was proper, the sentence was excessive.”
Madhuku said his client is prepared to pay bail of up to ZWL$500,000 for his freedom.
