MARYLAND -A leader of a Zimbabwean opposition party, who called for anti-government protests in 2020, has been found guilty of inciting violence.

Harare magistrate, Feresi Chakanyuka, ruled Thursday that Jacob Ngarivhume, president of Transform Zimbabwe, used his Twitter account to incite locals to protest against corruption and the government’s mishandling the economy.

Ngarivhume’s attorney, Professor Lovemore Madhuku, told journalists in Harare that his client will be sentenced tomorrow.

“He has been found guilty and he still mantains that he is innocent. We will be in court Friday,” said Madhuku.

Ngarivhume also said, “The Twitter account they are talking about is not mine. It’s just not right for me to be found guilty over something I didn’t do.”

But Chakanyuka ruled that Ngarivhume failed to prove that the Twitter account belonged to someone else.
