WASHINGTON - Some Zimbabwean ministers and veteran Members of Parliament have been beaten in Zanu PF primaries.

Matabeleland South provincial minister Abednico Ncube, Deputy Information Minister Kindness Paradza, Trade Minister Sekai Nzenza and several others bit the dust in the primaries.

In a tweet, Zimbabwe's information secretary Nick Mangwana indicated that Joseph Chinotimba is among top Zanu PF parliamentarians, who were defeated in the party primaries.

The Minister of Information Communication Technology, Janfan Muswere, lost to Moses Ruwona in Makoni West primaries.

Zanu PF sources also indicated that former Zimbabwe Electoral Commission member, Qhubani Moyo, who contested the Insiza primaries, was beaten in the polls while tsabatsaba dancer and musician, Sandra Ndebele won the primaries in Pelandaba.

In Uzumba constituency, where there were nearly 16,000 voters, Wiriranayi Muchemwa got 9,166 votes while veteran legislator Simbaneuta Mudarikwa received 2,272.

In Nkayi, Sithembiso Nyoni and Stars Thebe Mathe cruised to victory in the primaries amid reports of election fraud in most constituencies.

VOA Zimbabwe Service was unable to get comment from the losing candidates.

Zimbabwe is expected to hold harmonized elections sometime this year. The Constitutional Court declared Mnangagwa winner of the 2018 presidential election. His rival, Nelson Chamisa, said he will never recognize him as the winner of the disputed election.
