Zimbabwean police have dismissed reports that a member of the opposition Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) has been abducted by Zanu PF activists saying that Moreblessing Ali fell foul to a faltering love affair.
In a statement, police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said their investigations have revealed that Ali disappeared with a former lover, Pius Jamba.
Nyathi said Jamba is not a member of any political party “as alleged by some media activists and politicians.”
He said police investigations have so far shown that “Pius Jamba was accusing Moreblessing Ali of dumping him after he had spent a lot of money on her during their love affair.”
Nyathi urged the public and political activists to allow “the current investigations to proceed smoothly without trying to take advantage of the differences between Moreblessing Ali and Pius Jamba to settle political score or gain mileage. The police is working flat out to locate Moreblessing Ali and Pius Jamba.”
He said initial investigations have revealed that on May 24 at 8:30pm Moreblessing Ali and her friend,, Kirina Mayironi went to a drinking place at Chibhanguza Shopping Center in the company of Ali’s dog.
“At around 21:00 hours, the two women were approached by Moreblessing Ali’s former boyfriend Pius Jamba who openly told Moreblessing Ali that her dog was irritating him. Moreblessing Ali ignored Pius Jamba who went on to pull a pair of catapult from his trousers’ pocket and tried to strike the dog but missed and struck Kirina Mayironi.
“Kirina Mayironi ran into the club to seek refuge. Pius Jamba then had a scuffle with Moreblessing Ali and dragged her into darkness. The two disappeared. All this was clearly observed by Kirina Mayironi who later went home in the company of Washingon Mutsviri.”
Nyathi said on May 25, Mayironi reported a case of assault and disappearance of Ali to the police.
“… Currently there is no evidence to show that Simba Chisango is also linked to the disappearance of Moreblessing Ali or the scuffle which occurred at Chibhanguza Shopping Center.”
The opposition CCC claims that Ali, who was a member of the party, was abducted for campaigning for the political formation.
