Zanu PF conflicts linked to President Robert Mugabe’s succession continue ahead of the party’s December elective congress.

Tensions heightened when two party legislators, Masango Matambanadzo of Kwekwe Central and Owen Ncube of Gokwe-Kana, exchanged blows in public at Amaveni Shopping Centre in the city on Sunday over what critics say are indications that the party is fracturing due to factionalism.

The two belong to different Zanu PF factions led by Justice Minister Emmerson Mnangagwa and Vice President Joice Mujuru.

The party has introduced tough election conditions that have also divided the youth league and other structures.

Some of the conditions include a demand that a party member seeking a post should have served five consecutive years.

Zanu PF youth league secretary for external affairs, Tongai Kasukuwere, said preparations for the congress are in advance.
