Harare residents complain about the way the council is being run by Town Clerk Mahachi

Some Harare Residents are not happy with reports that Town Clerk Tendai Mahachi has reinstated Department of Water director Christopher Zvobgo and Health Services Department director Stanley Mungofa.

The two were part of the over 1000 council workers sent on early retirement last month.

Harare Residents Trust director Precious Shumba said residents needed to know the reasons behind the reinstatement and the retrenchments he noted were not done in a transparent manner.

Shumba said they have information that the two were brought back by Mahachi on a one-year contract yet only last month the same directors were among those given retrenchment letters either because they had reached the council early retirement age of 60 years or otherwise.

Zvobgo and Mungofa were reported to be among the council’s top earning directors who were pocketing over $36,000.00 a month.

Harare City Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni told Studio 7 he was not ready to discuss the issue.

Studio 7 failed to get a comment from the town clerk and reinstated directors.

But Shumba residents were going to produce a report that will be forwarded to the Parliamentary Portifolio Committees on Local Government, Health and Water soon.
