Zimbabwe’s Health and Child Welfare Minister Dr. David Parirenyatwa says his ministry urgently needs $3,5 million to ensure that Harare is adequately prepared to tackle a possible Ebola outbreak.
West African nations are currently reeling under an Ebola outbreak that has killed more than 4,000 people.
The health ministry has since the outbreak received $132,000 from Treasury to prepare to fend off a possible outbreak but Dr. Parirenywatwa says more is needed.
He told VOA Studio 7 the money was used to train health care workers and awareness campaigns.
Dr. Parirenyatwa says Zimbabwe will increase preventive measures, promoting prevention.
The prevention strategy aims to ensure all health care workers are trained to handle any potential cases of Ebola and to ensure that all medical institutions, which will directly handle Ebola cases, are properly equipped to deal with an outbreak.
