The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) formation of former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai says it has started preparations for its 15th anniversary slated for Masvingo’s Mucheke stadium on September 13th.

Party organising secretary, Nelson Chamisa, says this year’s celebrations are important because the party is holding its congress in October to gear itself for the 2018 national elections.

The MDC was formed on September 11th,1999, drawing its members mainly from the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions and the Zimbabwe National Students Union to become the country’s major opposition party.

But this year’s anniversary comes at a time the party is facing a split following the formation of the renewal team led by former secretary-general Tendai Biti.

Chamisa said they have set up committees to plan the celebrations.
