A Zimbabwean based in the United States, George Mahwende, says there is need for Zimbabweans living in America to prepare for deaths, college education and life after retirement.
Mahwende, who owns New York Life, says it is important for them to cater for such issues as some become stranded at times due to lack of proper planning.
He said his organization offers various insurance packages that cater for all age groups.
“It’s all about financial planning, planning ahead towards your financial objectives. We look into situations whereby we have family protection through life insurance. We also have personal investments, college savings plans. We also have mortgage protection and retirement annuity. Those are the key fundamental issues that we discuss with the clients.”
In terms of family protection, he said New York Life was looking at the impact of deaths in families.
“… We look at burial itself … If you die today without money there are serious problems that people you left are going to face, even struggle to bury you."
Hundreds of Zimbabweans live in USA with most of them normally facing challenges of repatriating bodies of beloved when they pass away. It costs more than $12,000 to ferry a body back to Zimbabwe for burial from the United States.
