Harare Council Probes Massive Tender Scams

Harare city councillors have resolved to hire an independent audit firm to investigate the council’s finances amid allegations of massive tender scams and huge salaries and perks involving senior managers.

A special full council meeting was called last month after disgruntled workers and residents expressed serious concern at the charges.

Workers have been going for months without pay and service delivery has continued to deteriorate.

Attempts to reach Town Clerk Tendai Mahachi, fingered in the investigations, were futile as his mobile phone went unanswered.

Harare Mayor Bernard Manyenyeni told VOA Studio 7 in an exclusive interview that the auditing is well underway.
