Christians in Zimbabwe and around the world will celebrate Easter on Sunday. The day is typically marked by family get togethers, meals, going to church, and perhaps some modest gift giving.

VOA Studio 7 spoke to some retailers who said they are recording low sales of various commodities due to declines in disposable income among the country’s workers.

Some retailers in Bulawayo and Harare said even fewer customers are buying luxury items such as Easter eggs and chocolates, which are usually sold during the Easter holiday.

Bulawayo businessman Isaac Mabuka runs supermarkets in the city and surrounding areas. He said most of his customers are buying simple commodities and not Easter goodies.
