$42,000 Raised for Late Zimbabwe-USAP Graduates in Crowd Funding App

WASHINGTON DC — 

More than $42,000 has so far been raised on a crowd-funding application for two Zimbabweans who died a few days ago in America.

Thanks to the internet-driven app, www.youcaring.com. The fundraising team collecting money for the repatriation of the bodies of former United States Students’ Achievers’ Program graduates, Nancy Tinoza and Morlene Tariro Magoronga, said the response is overwhelming.

Over $17,000 has been raised for Tinoza and about $25,000 for Magoronga.

The team said in a statement on Tinoza’s fundraising page there are sufficient funds to cover repatriation and funeral-related expenses for the Zimbabwean, who died in a road traffic accident.

“We are grateful for the tremendous support and contributions from you all and from the employer. We will keep the donation page open, but wanted to let you know that we have reached the goal. Plans are underway for a memorial service in the Washington DC area. We will post an update once the details are confirmed.”

But not much money has been raised for former ZBC-ZTV actor and Kidsnet presenter, Susan Muroyiwa, who died of cardiac arrest last Friday in Savannah, Georgia, USA.

Her daughter, Chiwoneso Mpofu, said the family has raised $1,600 through using another internet-based application, http://www.gofundme.com/pizb64?.

More than 200,000 families have benefited from the free crowd-funding app, www.youcaring.com since its inception in 2009. Head of Communications, Leonard Lee, says this application is effective in raising funds for families and friends living in different continents.

And internet communications expert, Gerry Dumani, says such applications can be enhanced through text messaging.
