Local Government Minister Ignatius Chombo has given vendors in Zimbabwe a one-week ultimatum to move from city and town centres or risk being evicted by the national army, police and council police.
Chombo read the riot act at his Makombe building offices. Zimbabwe’s struggling economy has forced many citizens to sell varous wares in the streets.
Chombo told VOA Studio 7 there is no going back and vendors must move as soon as possible.

Reacting to Chombo’s remarks, director Samuel Wadzai of the National Vendors Union Zimbabwe, said they will resisit the move.
He charged that members of the Joint Operation Command that oversees the operations of the army, police and other security agents, which was part of a meeting held to handle this issue, threatened to take stern measures if they fail to leave voluntarily.
