Premier Soccer League boss, Kennedy Ndebele, says soccer fans should desist from violence.
Ndebele told VOA Studio 7 they will be monitoring the Sunday clash between bitter rivals, Highlanders and Dynamos.
“We need to appreciate that the game of football is football it’s not a war. Fans must appreciate that it makes players feel intimidated as they are not sure where the thrown missile is going to come from. That affects players’ performance.”
He said club officials are supposed to control crowds and ensure that they encourage supporters to shun violence.
“It is unfortunate that some of these clubs are not doing that,” said Ndebele, adding that soccer fans should not attack referees.
“Referees are human beings they make mistakes, yes they go through training and it must be understood that they follow the laws of the game, at times they miss them here and there but it does not call for fans to take the law into their own hands to want to assault or murder the referee.”
Ndebele argues that in some premier soccer leagues worldwide fans don’t throw missiles at each other as football is viewed as a family game.
