Zanu PF: All Set for National Annual People's Conference

Zanu-PF spokesman Rugare Gumbo says preparations for his party’s Annual People’s Conference, which begins in Chinhoyi on Tuesday are at an advanced stage.
Gumbo told VOA Studio 7 the party’s Coordinating Committee spent the whole day Monday tying the loose ends ahead of Politburo and Central Committee meetings to kick off the conference.
Party leader President Robert Mugabe is expected to plant trees at the conference venue on Thursday to mark World Tree Day.
Zanu-PF went on a fundraising spree recently saying it needed $300 million to fund the conference that will run until Sunday. The party holds its conference against a background of bickering over recent provincial election which pitted two alleged factions led by Vice President Joice Mujuru and Justice Minister Emmerson Mnangangwa.
The two are believed to habour presidential ambitions as President Mugabe is likely to serve his last term due to old age. The so-called Mujuru faction made a clean sweep in most provinces to amass large numbers of delegates that will elect new leaders at next year’s congress.
But Gumbo said the differences that came out during recent provincial elections will not dampen the party’s spirit of unity.
