Six Chitungwiza municipal workers’ representatives were on Friday served with suspension letters for allegedly being away from work without official approval.
The six are also accused of inciting others to abandon their work stations protesting unpaid wages.
One of the affected workers, Reverend Ephraim Katsina, who is the workers’ spokesman, says the suspension letters were signed by the satellite town's heads of departments.
Other suspended workers are Tomson Bhamusi, Miriam Chitsa, Peter Kapamba and Israel Bako.
Chitungwiza Mayor Philip Mutoti professed ignorance over the suspensions. Town Clerk George Makunde was not reachable.
Chitungwiza workers last month embarked on a crippling strike demanding they outstanding salaries and allowances backdating 14 months.
