Harare Official: Arrest Commuters Boarding Kombis at Illegal Pickup Points

City of Harare

A top Harare City Council official has suggested that the city should amend its traffic rules to include the arresting of residents boarding kombis at illegal pickup points.

City Traffic planner Judith Mugeju told an all-stakeholders meeting this week, convened to tackle traffic congestion and accidents caused by kombis, that targeting kombis alone is not enough to bring order in the streets of the city.

Mugeju said new regulations will compel commuters to use designated kombi pickup points.

But Precious Shumba of the Harare Residents Trust said this will not resolve the city’s traffic congestion crisis.
