Gwanda municipality workers downed their tools Monday demanding immediate payment of salaries that have not been paid for at least three months.

Gwanda mayor Knowledge Ndlovu confirmed the developments but declined to comment further, saying the local authority is still discussing the issue.

Sipho Ndlovu chairman of the Zimbabwe Urban Councils’ Association Workers’ Union- Gwanda branch says negotiations with the local authority were not successful as workers were promised only one month salaries.

Ndlovu tells V-O-A reporter Sithandekile Mhlanga the strike will continue Tuesday until the local authority meet all demands from the workers.
