Journalists and civil society campaigners were on Monday paying tribute to human rights advocate and veteran journalist, Thomas Deve, who died of apparent heart attack Sunday.

Deve, 52, is survived by his wife and four children. He worked for various news outlets, including the now-defunct Zimbabwe Mirror and the Daily News.

Deve also served as chairman of the Media Institute of Southern Africa (MISA)-Zimbabwe. At the time of his passing, he was working for Deep Roots Foundation.

Mourners are gathered at his Zimre Park home in Harare ahead of burial at Warren Hills Cemetery on Tuesday.

Current MISA-Zimbabwe chairman, Kumbirai Mafunda, told VOA that Deve’s passing has left Zimbabwe poorer.
