Zimbabwe Champs Highlanders Trekking To Trans-Limpopo Tourney

Zimbabwe’s reigning soccer champions, Bulawayo-based Highlanders, have been invited to the Limpopo Soccer Challenge next week in South Africa.

The Premier Soccer League has cleared its reigning title-holder and log-leader, but the team awaits approval by the Zimbabwe Football Association for the lucrative event - Highlanders has been guaranteed 250,000 (US$35,700) in appearance fees.

The tournament in Pholokwane – formerly Pietermaritzburg - features South Africa's Black Leopards and Kaizer Chiefs, as well as Zanaco of Zambia.

Highlanders Chairman Ernest Mapepa Sibanda told Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that his squad leaves Friday the event, which is part of South Africa's preparations for the 2010 World Cup which the country is hosting.
