Zimbabwe's Premier Soccer League today unveiled a new event called the Champions of Champions Charity Shield to be played between Highlanders and Mwana Africa, both in the early stages of African-wide football tournaments.
Nestle Zimbabwe is sponsoring the event whose winner will claim a Z$25 million purse with Z$15 million going to the runner up, and proceeds to go to charities.
Highlanders Chairman Ernest Sibanda welcomed the sponsorship which he said would go a long way - win or lose - to defraying the costs associated with taking part in the African Champions League as the 2006 champion of the Premier Soccer League.
Mwana Africa, which won the CBZ Cup knockout competition during the 2006 season, is vying for the CAF Confederation Cup.
Sibanda told reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye of VOA's Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that he is pleased with efforts by the Premier League to address problems seen in 2006 when the country's top soccer league lacked a prize-money sponsor.
