UN Assembling Relief Program for Zimbabwe's Displaced

Though the Zimbabwean government has refused to formally request food aid from the international community, the United Nations is assembling a package of assistance that could be deployed soon to help victims of Harare’s campaign to clear out shantytowns that left more than a half million people homeless.

Meanwhile, the World Food Program has received a large contribution from the United States for the southern African region, including Zimbabwe.

Spokesman Mike Huggins in Johannesburg told reporter Patience Rusere of VOA’s Studio 7 for Zimbabwe that the U.S. funding remains to be allocated.
