Zimbabwean Sports Writers Deliberate Short List for 2009 Soccer Star of Year


Eleven candidates for Soccer Star of the Year will be designated this week and the winner will be announced on December 17

The Sports Writers Association of Zimbabwe meets Saturday in Kwekwe to draw up the short lists for the 2009 soccer star, coach and referee of the year awards.

Eleven soccer players will be nominated for Soccer Start of the Year with several coaches and referees also short-listed, and the winners will be announced on December 17.

The Soccer Star of the Year will collect US$4,000 while the runner up will receive a $2,000 cash award, the second runner-up receiving a consolation prize of US$1,400.

Eight other finalist will receive US$800 each.

The year's top goalkeeper and goal scorer - based on saves and goals scored - will recive US$1,100 each. The coach and referee of the year will claim US$2,000.

The awards are sponsored by the Commercial Bank Of Zimbabwe, better known as CBZ.
