Zimbabwe's Blue Ribbon Football Club Ready For Maiden Premiership Match

Blue Ribbon Football Club's first match is Saturday in Bulawayo's Luveve Stadium against Chicken Inn Football Club, another team promoted from Division One at the end of the 2010 season

Zimbabwe's Blue Ribbon football team says it will not chase the Premier Soccer League title this year but concentrate on building and avoiding relegation back to Division One.

The team’s first match is Saturday in Bulawayo's Luveve stadium against Chicken Inn Football Club, another team promoted from Division One after the 2010 season.

Blue Ribbon Club Secretary Isheunopa Ruwanza told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the club has added 10 new players to the 15 carried over from Division One as the team seeks to make its mark in the big time.

"We will use Rufaro stadium as our home ground and we are hoping that fans will turn out in their thousands to support our club," he said.

Blue Ribbon Foods, which sponsors the team, is well known for milling popular brands of maize meal used in making the glutinous national staple known as sadza.

Ruwanza said his team will establish itself in the PSL before chasing the title.
