WASHINGTON DC —
All is set for the long-delayed official unveiling of the statue of the late Vice President and veteran nationalist Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo in Bulawayo on Sunday.
The event will coincide with the renaming of main street to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and the official opening of the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport Mall in honor of the late politician.
President Mugabe will preside over the unveiling ceremony, which was deliberately slated for Unity Day, marking the unity accord that ended bloody fighting between PF Zapu and Zanu in 1987.
Nkomo family spokesman Dumisani Nyongolo Nkomo told VOA Studio 7 the family is happy to see their father honored, almost 14 years after his death.
