Highlanders Football Club have dismissed reports that coach Bongani Mafu has been fired following a string of loses at the team’s Bulawayo home ground, Barbourfields Stadium.
Club chief executive Ndumiso Gumede says reports that Mafu has been fired were being circulated on social media without any confirmation from Highlanders.
Gumede told VOA Studio 7 the club is happy with the team’s standard of play though players are failing to find the net.
“We are working on this and hopefully we will go over this bad spell,” said Gumede, who was watching the team’s training sessions on Tuesday at White City Stadium.
Highlanders have 14 points after playing 10 games. Castle Lager Premier Soccer League log leaders, Chicken Inn, have 23 points from the same number of games.
