The Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title race has taken an unexpected twist.

Instead of the traditional giants Dynamos and Highlanders, modest Harare City are now the favourites to lift the 2013 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title following their 4-0 humiliation of Bosso.

The Sunshine City Boys, with only two years of Premiership football experience, are top of the table with 53 points, two ahead of both Dynamos and Highlanders with only one round of matches remaining.

Soccer followers believe the trophy is now Harare City’s for the taking. Although the Sunshine City Boys take on Caps United in their last game of the season, soccer analyst Pearson Mandaza thinks the trophy is on its way to the City of Harare offices.

A win for the Sunshine City Boys over the Green Machine will guarantee them the title even if Dynamos beat Black Mambas and Highlanders overcome Shabanie Mine on the same day. Mandaza says the days of the big boys may be over.

Harare City striker Nathan Ziwini, who grabbed a double against Highlanders, says they will have no-one to blame but themselves if they do not take the league title. For him, the trophy is already in their hands.

Ziwini, who also won the championship with Gunners in 2009, says they are going to treat the game against the Green Machine as a cup final.

Should the Sunshine City Boys win the league title, they will join the likes of Monomotapa, Gunners, and Motor Action, among the small teams that have won the Zimbabwe football championship.

They will also qualify to represent Zimbabwe in the 2014 Caf Champions League.
