Dismissal of Zimbabwe Soccer CEO Rushwaya Stands Despite Scheduled Appeal Hearing

ZIFA lawyer Ralph Maganga said Rushwaya appeared Wednesday with her lawyer for the postponed appeal hearing, but her dismissal stands

A lawyer for the Zimbabwe Football Association said Wednesday that an appeal hearing sought by lawyers of sacked ZIFA Chief Executive Henrietta Rushwaya won't be held until Friday.

Rushwaya was dismissed on Tuesday after a ZIFA disciplinary panel found she had sent the Warriors national team to Asia in 2009 for unsanctioned matches some of which were fixed at the behest of local bookmakers.

A separate ZIFA disciplinary panel will examine the question of whether Rushwaya was involved in the match-fixing as those allegations not covered in the Tuesday hearing, sources said.

Attorney Ralph Maganga, representing ZIFA, told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that Rushwaya showed up with her lawyer on Wednesday for the postponed appeal hearing, but her dismissal stands.
