Zimbabwe's Mugabe Heads for Singapore Again; Wife Said Seeking Treatment

Some observers speculated that Grace Mugabe’s reported health issues might be a cover for the president’s own continued treatment in Singapore

President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe has flown to Singapore again, this time with his wife Grace who according to a report in the Standard weekly newspaper is seeking treatment for injuries sustained in a fall in the bathroom of their home.

The newspaper quoted presidential spokesman George Charamba as confirming that the president and first lady had indeed left for Singapore. It said Charamba hinted that Grace Mugabe has had health issues since the birth of her youngest child 14 years ago.

Some observers speculated that Grace Mugabe’s reported health issues might be a cover for the president’s own continued treatment in Singapore. There have been persistent news reports over the past few years saying he has received treatment for prostate cancer.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition Programs Manager Pedzisai Ruhanya told VOA Studio 7 reporter Jonga Kandemiiri that despite the speculation stirred by the trip there was nothing wrong with the president accompanying his wife to Singapore.
