Civil servants say they are happy with efforts to revive the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) after government and civil servants’ representatives met last week to deliberate on the long outstanding issue of the council chairperson and deputy.

The meeting picked three names that were forwarded to Labour Minister Priscah Mupfumira for consideration.

Sources said the three are Messrs. Chimbunde, Chigwendere and O. Jambwa. The sources noted that Mr. Chimbunde and Mr. Chigwendere are former chairpersons of the National Joint Negotiating Council.

The absence of a chairman has been blamed for the failure of civil servants to negotiate for salaries and other outstanding issues.

Apex Council chairman Richard Gundani told VOA Studio 7 as workers they hope that the forum that last met in January 2014, will tackle all the outstanding issues in order to accord them an opportunity to negotiate for a salary rise.
