WASHINGTON D.C. —
Passenger Association of Zimbabwe president, Tafadzwa George Goliati, says commuters and motorists should exercise extreme caution as they travel during this new year holiday.
Goliati says his organization is disturbed by the number of people who have lost their lives between Christmas Eve and Boxing Day.
Police reported that 27 people died while 47 were injured in road accidents during that short period. In an effort to deter motorists from breaking traffic regulations, parliament last week approved an increase in fines for various traffic offences.
The new fines will become effective on New Year’s Day.
Goliati said it is worrisome that some commuters at times urge motorists to drive fast.
