Zimbabweans in USA to Stage Anti-Mugabe Protests


Zimbabweans in the United States are preparing for demonstrations in New York against President Mugabe who is expected at the United Nations General Assembly that officially kicks off Tuesday.

The demonstrations, under the 21st Movement Free Zimbabwe Global Campaign, will be held at this weekend.

Organizers of the event told VOA Studio 7 they have dubbed the demos 'Operation Take Back Zimbabwe'.

Denford Moyo, the coordinator of the 21st Movement and who is also chairman of the United States branch of the Movement for Democratic Change formation of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai said the demonstations will also be in the United Kingdom and South Africa.

“We will stage these demostrations this weeked because we want more people to attend,” said Moyo.

The General Assembly is the main deliberative, policymaking and representative organ of the United Nations.

Comprising all 193 Members of the United Nations, it provides a unique forum for multilateral discussion of the full spectrum of international issues covered by the Charter.

The Assembly meets in regular session intensively from September to December each year, and thereafter as required.
