WASHINGTON DC —
The opposition Movement for Democratic Change formation led by Morgan Tsvangirai has upheld its congress resolution that it will not participate in any election in the country until Zimbabwe institutes electoral reforms.
The party’s National Council and National Executive met at the MDC-T Harvest House headquarters in Harare and unanimously agreed to continue the boycott.
President Robert Mugabe has proclaimed June 10 as the date for by-elections in 14 parliamentary seats that fell vacant after MDC-T recalled 21 legislators who had defected.
The recalled members are challenging the constitutionality of the move. MDC-T spokesman Obert Gutu told Studio 7 there is no going back on their demands for reforms.
