WASHINGTON DC —
The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) led by Morgan Tsvangirai says its constitutional review committee, which was led by deputy national chairman, Morgen Komichi, wrapped up its task of gathering views from party members Thursday.
The views are expected to be incorporated into the party’s constitution at the party’s congress in October.
Party spokesman Douglas Mwonzora says the committee will soon hand over its report to the national executive.
But there are divisions over some of the suggestions with some in the party calling for the reduction of the secretary general’s powers and the consolidation of the party president’s powers. Some in the party are opposed to the proposals.
Political commentator Mmeli Dube of Bulawayo Agenda said Mr. Tsvangirai should ensure that his party has a democratic constitution.
