For the first time, the Mbada Diamonds Cup final will be held outside Harare as holders Dynamos were knocked out in the preliminary stages of the $1 million tournament.

Premier Soccer League in consultation with their sponsors have decided for the first time to have the Mbada Diamonds Cup final played at Barbourfields Stadium on November 30.

This follows the semi-final win by Highlanders and How Mine who hail from Bulawayo where Barbourfields Stadium is situated.

Mbada Diamonds corporate services executive George Manyaya said they want to take the game closer to where the two teams’ fans are hence the decision to have the final played in Bulawayo.

Manyaya says they are happy with the huge crowds that have been attending the Mbada Cup matches due to the one dollar gate charges strategy. He revealed that they will still charge a dollar in the final.

Highlanders beat Harare City 5-3 on penalties in an exciting match at Mandava Stadium in Zvishavane on Saturday while How Mine made another giant killing act after a dramatic 4-2 penalty win over Caps United at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.

This is the first time that Bulawayo teams are meeting in the finals of the Mbada Diamonds cup.

But football analyst Victor Nyakudzuka thinks that Highlanders scoop the top soccer prize.

The winners of the Mbada Diamonds Cup will take home $130,000 and book a place in the 2014 CAF Confederation Cup.

They will also receive an additional $100,000 for their participation in the Pan-African football club competition.
