Long-Troubled Zimbabwe Football Association in Search for New National Coach

The Zimbabwe Football Association is launching a search for a new coach for the Warriors national team, while in the meantime former Monomotapa coach Norman Mapeza will continue as interim coach.

The new coach will be assisted by a German technical adviser, Klaus-dieter Pagels, who has been seconded to the Zimbabwean association with funding by the German Soccer Organization or DFB.

Soccer analyst Wellington Dangarembizi told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that ZIFA should put its house in order before hiring a new coach, noting that former coach Sunday Chidzambwa is still owed a large sum.

In South Africa, meanwhile, a friendly soccer match on Sunday between Highlanders of Zimbabwe and Jomo Cosmos of South Africa organized to rally opposition to xenophobia was judged a success.

More than 16-thousand soccer fans, in large part Zimbabwean, turned out for the game, which raised more than 300,00 rand or about US$40,000 for charitable activities and the repatriation of foreigners wishing to go home.
