Zimbabwe Davis Cup Tennis Team Relegated

The Zimbabwe Davis Cup tennis team has been relegated to the Euro-Africa Zone Group Three.

This comes after they blew a 2-1 lead to lose 3-2 to Georgia in a Euro-Africa Zone Group Two relegation tie at the Mziuri Tennis Club in Tbilisi.

Zimbabwe went into final day leading 2-1 after having won the doubles on Saturday but Benjamin Lock and Mark Fyn lost their reverse singles in straight sets.

This means Zimbabwe have been relegated to the Africa Zone Group Three after spending two years in Euro-Africa Zone Group Two.

Zimbabwe were missing their top-ranked player Takanyi Garanganga who had other commitments in the USA where he is based.

Meanwhile, Highlanders are on top of the Premier Soccer League table after beating Caps United 1-0 yesterday at Babourfields Stadium.

Bosso have 30 points out of 15 games and are closely followed by FC Platinum with the same number of points. The Green Machine are on third with 29 points.

FC Platinum coach Norman Mapeza says there is nothing special about Highlanders being on top of the table. After all, he says, they are both on 30 points and have a game in hand.

Dynamos stayed five points behind the leaders but not in style after the glamour Boys struggled and were held to a goalless draw against visiting ZPC Kariba.

In fact, Katuruturu had the closest chances at goal and coach Sunday Chidzambwa is crying over those missed opportunities.

Chidzambwa says he is happy with what they have done and is hoping for a better show in the remaining 15 matches.
Although Dynamos are in fourth position, five points behind the leaders, Dembare coach Lloyd Mutasa says the league race is still wide open.

The other week 15 results were as follows:

Harare City 1 Chicken Inn 1
Border Strikers 0 How Mine 1
Chapungu 2 Mutare Rovers 0
Ngezi Platinum Stars 3 Triangle 1
Thsolotsho Pirates 3 Hange 0

After 15 games, the top four teams are:

Highlanders 30 points
FC Platinum 30 points
Caps United 29 points.
Dynamos 25 points.

The bottom four are:
Hwange 18 points
Thsolotsho 11 points
Mutare City Rovers 10 points
Border Strikers 6 points.
