Crisis Group to Stage Protests Over Zimbabwe Economic Decay

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition says it is planning to stage protests to express its dismay at what it is calling government’s failure to deal with mounting economic problems.

The organization, which is a grouping of civic entities, says it has also been irked by President Robert Mugabe’s remarks last week that the economy is on a rebound despite mounting negative campaign fuelled by the so-called country’s detractors.

Unemployment rate, according to unofficial statistics, is now soaring above 90% with the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions claiming that over 300 workers were being retrenched every week.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition spokesman Mfundo Mlilo says consultations to stage the protests are currently under way.
