Zimbabwe Cricket confirmed on Thursday that Ireland will play Intercontinental Cup matches against its second seed Zimbabwe eleven in a tour of the country in September.
The news ended uncertainty as to whether Ireland would be on hand or follow the lead of England, Australia and others who have boycotted Zimbabwe over objections to Harare’s human rights record. Ireland was under pressure to follow the boycott but confirmed it will tour the Southern African state.
The Zimbabwe XI have been in good form: in a recent Intercontinental Cup tour it beat Netherlands by 137 runs then prevailed over Canada by 73 runs.
Zimbabwe Cricket media manager Jeffrey Murimbechi told VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga Nyahuye the tour is another step toward Zimbabwe’s resumption of International test play.
