WASHINGTON DC —
A top official of the Morgan Tsvangirai Movement for Democratic Change formation, Isaac Muchenje of Chivhu, appeared in court Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a councillor after failing to access presidential agricultural inputs.
His lawyer, Benjamin Chikowore told VOA Studio 7 Muchenje is facing charges of common assault.
Chikowore said the state claims that Muchenje beat up the councillor, who was distributing the inputs, soon after he was denied access to the presidential scheme.
He said his client pleaded not guilty to the charge when he appeared before a Chivhu magistrate in Mashonaland East province.
MDC-T spokesman Obert said these agricultural inputs are causing a lot of tension among rural farmers.
