Zimbabwean tennis-lovers were disappointed to see national standard-bearer Cara Black and her U.S. doubles partner Liesel Huber defeated by the Williams sisters Serena and Venus in the Australian Open, but took heart with Black's victory Sunday in the mixed doubles with Indian partner Leander Paes.
Black and Paes defeated Russian Ekaterina Makarova and Czech Jaroslav Levinsky, turning the tide with a decisive break-serve against Makarova in the first set at 5-5, going on to take the match in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
Zimbabwean tennis coach Richmore Murape tells VOA Studio 7 reporter Marvellous Mhlanga-Nyahuye that the latest Black success story will provide inspiration to new Zimbabwean players whose horizons are now opening.
